On January 11, 2015, a small dog from Mexico City was found injured on the side of the highway. The pet had been hit by a vehicle and thanks to a concerned motorist who reported the injured dog, animal control officers (SSPDF) rushed to rescue the pet.
According to Leticia Varela, city’s crime prevention unit director, the canine had injuries from the accident, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
Aside the recent injuries, the dog was groomed and in great health. Authorities believe the dog escaped from his home before entering the highway and getting hit.
What saved the pet’s live was the motorist who took the time to report the injured dog. Varela said that as soon as the call came in, SSPDF officers were dispatched to the highway to save the pet. Rescuers hope the dog can be reunited with his owners.
