Major Kyle Durham is the firefighter that rescued a puppy from a blazing tool shed fire. He has decided to bring the puppy into his home as a new member of the family, and judging by the pictures of the plucky little pup, he couldn’t be happier to have a new, safe and loving forever home.
Durham responded to a call that a tool shed in someone’s backyard was on fire. It wasn’t until he got there that he found out there was a litter of puppies trapped inside, and he knew he had to act, and fast.
“We started hearing a little bit of whimpering coming from there so we dug them out,” said Durham.
Of the litter inside, two of them survived. One went through weeks of care and recovery at the Animal Emergency and Surgical Center. Once Durham laid eyes on the puppy, he knew it was love at first sight.
“Probable showing a picture of him to my wife and kids made the decision (to adopt him),” said Durham
The puppy’s name is Champion. He is doing well, but did have one ear burned off, and there is much scar tissue that covers almost his whole body. The puppy will also sadly have to have one of his legs amputated, being just too damaged to save.
“The vet kind of compared it to if you twist your ankle and then just walked around on the side of your ankle, the kind of pain he’d be in,” Durham said.
Even though Champion has his scars and deformaties, the family is just all too happy to include him as a new member. They are just glad this puppy that had quite a rough start to his little life, is going to live with them, where he will live out his days happy and healthy, and with a loving forever family.
