Heart of Gold Dog Miraculously Survives Two Murder Attempts

11.12.14 - Heart of Gold Dog Miraculously Survives Two Murder Attempts2

This comes from KC Pet Project:

The image is graphic – but this is a story of incredible survival and hope. Roadrunner, a Tibetan Spaniel, arrived in critical condition at KC Pet Project on Sunday night. He was a victim of unspeakable cruelty – one of the worst cases we’ve ever seen.

Roadrunner was strangled and beaten by his owner, who lived in an apartment complex in Kansas City, then thrown off a 3rd floor balcony and left for dead. Witnesses called Kansas City, MO animal control who responded to the scene and brought the little dog to our shelter.

Our veterinary staff recognized the critical nature of his injuries and rushed him to BluePearl Veterinary Partners for emergency care. Unfortunately, due to severe facial trauma, his eyes could not be saved and he underwent surgery yesterday to remove both of his eyes.

Roadrunner is now resting comfortably today in a loving foster home.  He will need additional medical care and therapy to adapt in a world without his sight. Everyone who’s met him said he is a sweet little dog who just wants to be loved and is happiest in your lap.

In the past year alone, KC Pet Project has received over 470 animals at our shelter as a result of cruelty or neglect in Kansas City, MO. Please help us raise needed funds for Roadrunner’s surgeries and ongoing medical care by donating today to the KC Pet Project medical fund at www.kcpetproject.org/donate. Please designate your donation to “Roadrunner.” Your tax deductible gift supports the lifesaving work we do every day for injured and ill animals from our community. Please share Roadrunner’s heartbreaking story as an incredible story of survival – one that needs to be told.

Here is another survivor:

Barrett is a dog currently available for adoption at KC Pet Project who is an amazing survivor. He arrived at our shelter in October, severely injured and bleeding. After receiving x-rays, our veterinary team determined that Barrett had been injured by a gunshot to the mouth. He had two broken teeth as a result and the bullet was still lodged in the back of his throat.

Despite all of this, Barrett was the friendliest, happiest dog with everyone he met. He’s had surgery to try to remove the bullet and remaining fragments, but due to the risk of damaging nerves in his throat, the bullet will have to remain where it is. He now eats and drinks normally, and plays well with other dogs in our shelter play groups. And he loooooves people! Go meet him at our main shelter location today.

Your donation to our medical fund atwww.kcpetproject.org/donate helps dogs like Barrett every day. We appreciate your support so we can continue saving precious lives like his.
