A pregnant dog being transported from Texas to Wisconsin had escaped the cargo hold of the plane she was in and took off running. What was supposed to be a dog rescue, ended up being a massive search and rescue operation in Winterset, Iowa.
The rescue transport was being done by Ruff Life Rescue out of Wisconsin was flying Ava, a black lab mix, to their facilities where she could give birth, nurse and find a new home. When the plane carrying her landed in Winterset, Iowa, Ava slipped her harness and took off running.
Many people gathered to assist in finding the dog. The crews searched overnight, and many people were very worried about her.
Bringing in another rescue and transport team called AHeinz57 Pet Rescue, Ava was finally located just before noon this past Saturday. When they found Ava however, she wasn’t alone.
Ava had given birth to nine puppies.
The founder of AHeinz57, Amy Heinz, said that Ava had her puppies all clean and dry when they found her, and seemed ready for a much needed rescue.
“She’s doing everything a good mommy should be doing with her puppies,” said Amy.
Amy says that she’s unsure of exactly what Ava and her newly born pups living situation is going to be. Ava has unfortunately lost her spot at a foster home, and it seems like they will actually be staying in Iowa until the puppies are old enough for adoption.
Ava and her pups need all the help they can get right now, and the rescue is asking for anyone willing to help, to visit www.aheinz57.com.
