There has been a nationwide recall by Barkworthies over their “Chicken Vittles” dog chews. There may be an issue with Salmonella bacteria risk associated with the dog treats, and should not be fed to your dog at all.
Not only do the treats have the potential to harm your dog from eating, but the hazard may also transfer to humans that handle the “chicken jerky” style treat. It is recommended that if you have any of these in your home, double bag them and throw them away as soon as possible. Do not touch the treats in any way, and if you do, it’s recommended you wash your hands immediately.
Anyone that believes that they may have fed these treats to their dog can look for the following symptoms to check for the possibility of infection:
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- High fever
- Abdominal pain or tenderness
The Virginia based company says that the potentially affected treats will pertain to a particular lot number, and are specific to a particular size of the pouch it’s sold in. Anyone having these treats should check for the following:
BARKWORTHIES CHICKEN VITTLES
Lot Code: 1254T1
Size: 16 oz. Plastic Pouch
Best Used by Date: May 2016
UPC: 816807011510
So far, there hasn’t been any reports of serious illness breaking out over the treats. The recall is precautionary, but they still are warning consumers that if any of the above information is on the package you have, do not feed it to any animals at all. It may be hazardous and should be disposed of immediately.
