A family in Franklin, New Jersey is feeling more complete after their furry member who was stolen during a break-in at their home this past Tuesday has thankfully been returned.
“It was a horrific crime and I think the punishment reflects that,” said Michele Miller told The Star-Ledger after the hearing. “She broke into someone’s home and killed their dog and they watched it happen. Not too many things are more disturbing than that,” said Miller.
Though dog fighting is a felony, abusers rarely see two years behind bars. Hopefully with the addition of gun and drug charges, they will be serving sentences closer to the ones they deserve.
"She’s a female, so I named her 'IV' without the 'Y' as sort of a play on words. Somebody had to physically type in that name and they didn’t pay any bit of attention to it," he says.
“We were so sad, so distraught for 17 months,” Miguel Cruz said. “When you’re a dog person, the dog is part of the family. It’s a family member that’s gone. So, you never give up hope.”
“Mike jumped into the street to save the dog,” said mayoral successor Russell Johnson. “He literally threw the dog back onto the curb.... But as soon as he did that, he got hit by a car.”
