On July 22, 2014, the Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) saved the life of 39 small dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, crammed in a crate and about to be abandoned along a highway near St. Louis.

An anonymous tip lead the HSMO Animal Cruelty Task Force to a Carter County home, where investigators found the pets’ owner loading the innocent animals in a truck. The irresponsible owner had the malicious intent to drive along a highway and dump the dogs, however, the abuser agreed to sign over the pets to the Humane Society.

As soon as the dogs arrived at the organization’s headquarters in St. Louis, a veterinarian checked them and found that most of them were sick. The pets suffered from parasites, hair loss, overgrown nails, and some had matted fur.

The pets are receiving proper care and when ready they will be place for adoption.
