Police were disgusted when they walked into the backyard of the home to find a 25 to 40 people actually watching a violent and bloody dog fight match going on at around 9:30pm Tuesday.
Justice officials say the defendants maintained and operated a dogfight gambling enterprise named the 229 Boys Kennels Inc. from April 2006 to April 2010.
Miguel Angel Palacios died defending Jerry, a miniature Pinscher, from 33-year-old Jesús Antonio Castaño, who was drunk and threatened to sever the dog's head with a machete.
“Obviously we were disappointed that the court dismissed the suppression motion, but we’ll see what happens next,” said Terry Hughes who is Mathis’ lawyer.
“We take the issue of dangerous dogs and alleged organized dog fighting very seriously and would encourage anyone with concerns to contact us,” DI Upton said.
Last month, Michael Davis was charged with 27 counts of felony animal fighting. Metro police were at his home on Pewitt Road to remove 27 pit bulls and one bulldog on Thursday. The 27 felony charges have been passed up to the Davidson County grand jury for a hearing.
In Buffalo, NY, animal rights activists protested in front of Buffalo City Hall on Friday. This was to draw attention to the case against a man accused of running a dog fighting ring in the Western New York area.
Dr. Millard ‘Lou’ Tierce turned himself in to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office around 7 pm on Wednesday after the accusations against him went public. His license has been suspended and he has been charged with cruelty to animals.
