Happy Veterans Day to all you vets out there!  While on active duty, having a pet can be one of the only things that helps bring stability and comfort during times of extreme stress, and the pets left behind at home can be one of the greatest things to look forward to.  In honor of those who have served, here are some of the best photos of solders and dogs – and even a couple kitties.

Spaniards are mourning the death of Ney, a golden retriever from A Coruña, who was not just his owner’s best friend, but the best friend of anyone visiting Lugo Plaza.

On October 17, 2014, a stray dog trespassed a bank’s air-conditioned ATM room in Lambaré, Paraguay, because he was looking for a cool place to rest. It was well over 104 °F (40 °C) on that day it  and the dog just wanted a comfortable place relax. A passerby spotted the dog next to the ATM machine, took a picture and uploaded the image to Twitter. The image went viral, and next thing you know, the stray dog found a forever home.

A little Chi-weenie named Trixxie had her life saved when Happy, the neighbor’s Rottweiler, prevented her from becoming a coyote’s breakfast.

Early one morning back in 2010, Trixxie was put out on a chain to take care of her business while her owner did the same inside.  She was only out there for a few minutes when a coyote ambushed her.  The chain prevented the coyote from running off with her in his mouth.
