Police said the couple only needed about 60 seconds to case the store. They were walking through the store pushing a stroller, and managed to steal a Chihuahua puppy priced at $999.
“The veterinarian told me ‘it was bad’ and it would probably be expensive,” Price said about the four-month-old pit bull they named Kurtis. “I knew we couldn’t afford the treatment and I had to consider euthanasia, but I didn’t want to. He was just so bad off. His face was bleeding and full of scabs. He was dehydrated and had mange, a staph infection and E. coli.”
David said he was in the store for “maybe 15 minutes” when Charlie was taken. The person that took the pup left his collar and an unsigned note from the person who took him.
According to department spokesperson Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, she “tried to hold on to the leash, but the suspects shoved her to the ground, grabbed the dog, and ran off. The victim told officers the female suspect yelled ‘it’s my dog’ as she fled.”
Cindy Koch has always wanted a deaf dog. When asked why she would give the same reply every time. “Because I’m deaf and we want to relate to her, and understand how she feels- (we) want to communicate with her through signing, teach her signing.”
Maddison is a Doberman mix who was rescued off of the streets in Texas. When she was being transported to Wisconsin, she slipped her harness near Midway Airport in early January and was lost for five days.
