Anyone who has seen a loved one go through the horrors of Alzheimer’s disease, knows just how brutal the condition can be. Lisa Abeyta’s father knows this suffering first hand. There is, however, one thing that seems to be helping. The family dog.
Eddie, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois, has spent most of his life at MacDill Air Force Base earning his reputation as a hero. Now he has the official documents to prove it, and has retired with full military honors.
When no one heard from Caroline Wylie, her friends knew that something was wrong/ Authorities searched for the missing woman and service dog and found them off Route 3.
"At one point my dog was coming down one of those large rubble piles and she put her front paw into a large glass window. The glass shattered, and her foot went through," said Armstrong.
While Sgt. Mark received treatment in the U.S. he never forgot his loyal, four-legged comrade. He wondered if the dog would forget him but the bond between the service man and his dog is unbreakable.
“For her to stop and take a moment of her time to show just a little compassion to an animal that obviously just lost his best friend goes to show us there are some people out there that really do care,” Michelle Carrington said.
Last month we brought you the story of Charlie, the heroic dog who sacrificed herself to save her family from armed invaders. Now three-legged dog, has returned home to recover.
“Frankly, it’s the crazy ones,” biologist Pete Coppolillo said, laughing.. “The high-energy ones who will look at you with the Frisbee and say ‘come on, let’s go’ again and again.”
