Most stray dogs get scooped off the streets and find forever homes after they are found injured and in great need. Some have such sweet demeanors that their forever homes are found when the pets win over the hearts of an animal lovers. Rarely do we hear anyone say that they want to offer a stray dog a forever home after the dog has bit them. Well, in Brazil, a soccer player decided to do just that after a stray dog interrupted their professional match and bit the player in mid game.

There is no doubt, whoever shot Ziggy with a crossbow did it deliberately.

The two year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier was found last week by two motorists in Wansford, Peterborough in England. The dog survived his attempted close range murder and then roamed a wooded area for two days. During this time, the pet had a 20 in. carbon fiber arrow lodged in his throat and head, but thanks to rescuers the pet is now recovering.

Most pet owners have a hard time leaving their dogs behind every day to go to work, but for Lisa Owen-Jones from Stoke Newington, north London, leaving her dog Florence home alone was just heart breaking. The 20-year marketing veteran decided her Wire Fox Terrier and their happiness came first, so she quit her job and opened her own coffee shop where she is able to bring her dog to work every day.

In El Salvador, Hachi, a four-year-old Akita dog, survived a gunshot to the mouth defending his owner in an armed robbery.

“I was coming back from the bank when suddenly two men approached me demanding cash. Hachi lunged towards the man holding a gun and the thief shot my dog,” said the pet owner.

In Argentina, two men jumped into the Gualeguaychú River to save a chocolate Labrador that became entangled in a buoy. The dog struggled to stay afloat and almost drowned, but thanks to the heroic men, who didn’t think twice about jumping into muddy water, the canine is alive and well.

A stray dog in India was crossing some tracks when the rails shifted and trapped him.  His legs were severed by a train, and he would have succumbed to exsanguination or infection had it not been for the amazing folks at Animal Aid Unlimited, who got him the care he needed.

Teresa Romero is the first person in Spain that has recently been infected with the Ebola virus without having traveled to Africa. She contracted the deadly virus after an infected Spanish priest was flown out of Africa for treatment and Romero took care of him in a Madrid hospital. Unfortunately, Excalibur, the nurse’s dog, was euthanized today by Spanish authorities because they feared the dog could be a carrier of the disease, since the pet lived with the infected nurse.

After ten months in the making, Nikko, the stray dog from Cartagena, Colombia, gets his dream come true. He went from homeless, unwanted and malnourished, to loved and spoiled, but on the road to his American dream, the once stray dog fought off, heartworm, Lyme disease and cancer.
