Canine Fire Survivors Continue to Wait for Homes

Back in April we told you about a massive fire that destroyed 2,900 homes in Valparaiso, Chile. While the fire left many humans homeless it also affected many house pets and stray dogs. Out of the devastation came hope, when a group of concerned animal lovers organized an emergency shelter area to treat and care for the many dogs that lost their homes and owners, but until today, many of those pets are still waiting to be reunited with their original owners, or adopted into new loving homes.

Chacho the Invisible Dog Wants a Home

No, Chacho is not actually invisible, but in the eyes of all those who walk through CIAAM (Centro Integral de Animales Abandonados de Madrid) he is. The shelter’s staff and volunteers have classified him as an “invisible” dog because he is a large breed, an adult, and a mixed breed. Characteristics of dogs hardly anyone want to adopt.

Animal Lovers and Social Media Save a Dog’s Life

When Rocío Rivas, from Spain, found a stray in deplorable conditions, she didn’t think twice and knew she had to do something to help. Thanks to her kind heart, the actions of many other Spaniards, and the power of social media, the stray’s life was saved.

At the beginning of July, the badly injured canine started roaming the streets of Duancos, Spain. Locals found the dog and helped him. He was hungry, dirty, infested with ticks and fleas, and has an injured leg. It appeared the pet had been hit by a car, but he also showed signs of past abuse.

Felines & Canines, a Chicago based no-kill animal shelter, rescued Sheba on July 5, 2014, after they successfully placed many of their own animals in forever homes on July 4th. When they met Sheba, their hearts broke and they new they had to pull her and try to save her.

I-35 German Shepherd Gets Rescued and Adopted

On June 25, 2014, Dallas police officers chased an unusual fugitive down Interstate 35. The runaway was smart, hairy, and very fast on his four legs.

Commuters started calling authorities as early as 7:30 a.m. informing them of a German Shepherd running down I-35. Officer Charles Timmons and Sharifa Williams were dispatched to the scene to try to control and capture the canine, but the dog turned out to be too smart for its own good and the officers requested Animal Control Officer Eric Pogue as backup.

Dog Gets Head Stuck in Jar and Is Rescued from Abandoned House

Olive, a three-year-old Chow mix had been living in an abandoned house and hadn’t been able to eat, drink water or breathe right for several days, because her head was stuck inside a plastic container. Her life changed when a Good Samaritan from Detroit, Mich., saved Olive’s live when she contacted the Michigan Humane Society to get the poor dog rescued.

Update: Dog Rescued from Rain Now Waits for Forever Home

In April, we told you about the heroic actions of Dallas Police Officers who rescued a large dog seeking refuge behind a big box store at 2:30 a.m., instead of scaring away the canine from the property. Those officers saved Martin’s life (the dog).

On June 20, 2014, a small puppy named Roady became homeless when his owners tossed him out a car window on a Boone County, West Virgina, county road. Luckily, another driver on that same road witnessed the cruel act, stopped to rescue the innocent dog, and chased the car from which the pet had been tossed.

Teenager Starts Own Rescue Center to Save Homeless Pets

While most teenagers’ summer plans are to party, sleep in, or watch a lot of TV, 13-year-old Marisa Milford’s summer plans are completely out of the ordinary. Instead of doing what the average teen does during summer, Milford started her own pet rescue in her Youngstown, Fla., home.
