Wendell McClure is a resident of Bakersfield, California and an avid fisherman.  This past Thursday was like any other for him at the start, even if it was a bit rainy out that morning.  What was supposed to be a day of fishing, turned out to be a harrowing day of dog rescue, and now he’s considered a bit of a local hero.

Gato (Spanish for Cat) belonged to Benjamín González Sánchez, a homeless man from Guadalajata, Jasisco, Mexico, who unfortunately died two weeks ago of hypothermia. The dog and his owner used to sleep outside one of the entrances to Jalisco Stadium, but since the passing of González Sánchez, the dog simply roams the streets alone without anyone to look over him, get him food, or protect him from the cold.

A dog from Mexico City fell 49 feet into a cave located in the Chapultepec Forest and spent 15 days trapped in the void. Fortunately, after various attempts, animal rescuers were able to locate and pull the dog to safety.

Dogs are loyal human companions. An example of true friendship and human devotion comes from Serbia, where a male dog abandoned by his owners in a home filled with trash, almost died of starvation, waiting for his owners’ return.

A Jack Russell Terrier from Boise, Idaho, named Baby Dog is happy to be back with her owners after spending more than 24 hours away from home stuck in a metal pipe.

The energetic dog was out for a walk on December 6, 2014, and she wondered off on her own. Her owners were worried when the little dog didn’t come back. They searched the area but didn’t find her until the following day. It is believed the dog chased after another smaller animal and got her head stuck in the metal pipe.

On December 10, 2014, a woman from Merriam, Kan., was out for a walk in a public park when she found a stray dog resting in the park’s gazebo. The dog’s fur was so matted that his eyes, nose and mouth were not visible. It is a mystery how the pet is alive after enduring such animal neglect, the matted fur on his face made it difficult for the little dog to eat or see.
