David said he was in the store for “maybe 15 minutes” when Charlie was taken. The person that took the pup left his collar and an unsigned note from the person who took him.
According to department spokesperson Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, she “tried to hold on to the leash, but the suspects shoved her to the ground, grabbed the dog, and ran off. The victim told officers the female suspect yelled ‘it’s my dog’ as she fled.”
“They were so excited,” said Stacy Yarberry. “The man teared up. He was like ‘Are you kidding me? My dog has been missing for five years!’ His wife started bawling in the background. They were so happy and so stunned.”
The Lentz family packed up in their van and headed to safety, but in the middle of the chaotic evacuation, their small dog was lost. Two days later a miracle happened.
Reckless was picked up as a stray, brought to the shelter, microchipped, checked by vets, and prepped to find his new home, but instead he found his original owners again.
“She’s been sleeping on concrete in a kennel her whole life,” said Bos. “She’s going to get to be on the couch, everywhere. She’s going to be living the civilian life.”
