Firefighters Rescue Pit Bull Trapped in Sewage Treatment Plant Basin

On August 15, 2014, firefighters from Contra Costa County in California, rescued a female Pit Bull trapped in a holding basin at the West County Wastewater District treatment plant.

A call came in at 10:30 a.m. from a plant employee reporting the pet in distress. Firefighters were dispatched to the plant located on Garden Tract Road, and a rescue mission was set in motion.

Nikkos the Abandoned Dog Almost Starves to Death

On July 23, 2014, an abandoned and malnourished three-year-old American Bulldog mix was found in great need, roaming the streets of Southwest Miami-Dade, Fla. The dog has been named Nikkos and suffers from Masticatory Myositis, an autoimmune disorder in which the tissues of the jaw become so inflamed, that the dog cannot open his mouth to eat or drink. Nikkos was slowly starving to death.

When found, he weighed 44 lbs. when his normal weight should be 65 lbs.

Canine Fire Survivors Continue to Wait for Homes

Back in April we told you about a massive fire that destroyed 2,900 homes in Valparaiso, Chile. While the fire left many humans homeless it also affected many house pets and stray dogs. Out of the devastation came hope, when a group of concerned animal lovers organized an emergency shelter area to treat and care for the many dogs that lost their homes and owners, but until today, many of those pets are still waiting to be reunited with their original owners, or adopted into new loving homes.

Emaciated Ky. Dog Rescued and Saved

On July 10, 2014, Hank, an emaciated five-month-old pooch weighing less than 30 pounds was found wandering a Louisville, Ky., neighborhood. Neighbors found the sick dog and knew he needed immediate help. Concerned for the pet’s well being, residents reached out to various animal rescue organizations until they found one who agreed to help nurse the dog back to health.

For the past month, neighbors and animal lovers in Modesto, Calif., have tried to rescue a stray dog living in a dirt field near the 35-acre field at Oakdale Road and Floyd Avenue, but so far their efforts have failed.

Dog Trapped Underneath Light Rail Train Stops Traffic

A stray dog from Tempe, Ariz., stops traffic when it became trapped underneath a light rail train in the crossing near University Drive and Rural Road. Luckily for the pet, police officers were able to rescue the canine before perishing in a tragic accident.
