The morning of May 31, 2014, Sherri Johnson was driving on Georgia’s I-75 when she spotted a small dog on the road.

“He was just sitting there, looking back and forth as if to decide which way to run,” Johnson told WSBTV.

On June 20, 2014, a small puppy named Roady became homeless when his owners tossed him out a car window on a Boone County, West Virgina, county road. Luckily, another driver on that same road witnessed the cruel act, stopped to rescue the innocent dog, and chased the car from which the pet had been tossed.

Dog Swims across Sava River Floods and Reunites with Owners

Recent heavy rains in Serbia have flooded towns and forced area residents to evacuate. In Zabrežje, the Sava River crested and locals were relocated to a shelter in nearby Belgrade. However, families with pets were forced to leave their four-legged family members behind. Dona, a seven year-old mixed-breed dog, is one of many abandoned pets, however the pet was determined to get back with her family, and somehow she swam across the river, then walked a few kilometers into Boljevci and found her owners.

Hundreds Demand “Justice for Indy” Outside Courtroom

On June 10, 2014, hundreds of animal lovers gathered outside the Van Nuys courtroom in California to show their support for Indy, a pit bull discovered with third-degree burns over half his body on Independence weekend 2013. They gathered outside the court house because 41-year-old Carlos Duarte, the man arrested and charged for Indy’s animal abuse, appeared in court for a preliminary hearing. The group not only showed support for Indy, but they demanded justice for the innocent pet.

St. Louis Dumpster Dog Rescued and Waiting for Forever Home

On June 5, 2014, a concerned St. Louis, Mo., citizen contacted police and informed them of an abandoned dog in a garbage dumpster on the 4700 block of Hammett Place. Officers were dispatched to the location and they found a scared and malnourished female, terrier mix puppy, cowering  inside the garbage bin.

The dog was pulled from the container and taken to Stray Rescue where she is being cared for and nursed back to health. She was named Little Kimmy.
