No one knows why a man in Cartago, Costa Rica, decided to attack a gentle, mixed breed dog with a machete, but the animal abuser did just that and inflicted six deep wounds on a sweet dog. Somehow the pet survived the gruesome attack. Today, he is known as “Machi” and is expected to make a full recovery.

On August 9, 2014, a brown female mixed terrier is believed to have been maliciously thrown from a moving vehicle traveling on New Jersery’s Parkway. The dog was hit by another vehicle but it miraculously survived and now police is searching for the dog’s abusers.

Jasper, a sweet male dog suffering from bleeding wounds all over his body and face, was saved just a few days ago by Providing for Paws (PFP), an animal rescue organization based in Garden City, Mich. Initially, it was believed the dog’s injuries were from an extreme case of scabies mange, however, a veterinarian concluded the pet’s wounds are the result of a chemical burn.

While Emilia Lucchese walked the streets of Messina, Sicily, she discovered an abandoned and dehydrated dog dumped inside a garbage container. The male dog was weak and had his legs tied up with wire. Someone dumped the innocent pet inside a garbage can. Lucchese only realized there was an animal in need inside the container, after overhearing the dog’s faint whines. When she opened the bin’s lid she discovered a tied plastic bag with the agonizing dog inside it.

On July 23, 2014, an abandoned and malnourished three-year-old American Bulldog mix was found in great need, roaming the streets of Southwest Miami-Dade, Fla. The dog has been named Nikkos and suffers from Masticatory Myositis, an autoimmune disorder in which the tissues of the jaw become so inflamed, that the dog cannot open his mouth to eat or drink. Nikkos was slowly starving to death.

When found, he weighed 44 lbs. when his normal weight should be 65 lbs.

Twenty-six-year-old Arunas Kastentinavicius, from Perry Close, Staffordshire, faces animal abuse and cruelty charges for allegedly forcing his dog, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, to wear a heavy collar made of broken bricks and black tape.

The discovery made by shoppers of Mothercare in Stoke-on-Trent, received a lot of media coverage after photographs of the abused dog wearing the heavy collar went viral on the Internet.

Who could abandon a pregnant dog with deformed legs? Well, this is the question The Cortland Community SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Department wants answered.

Little Lady, a possible Kelpie and reddish in color, was found on June 29, 2014, on the front lawn of a Cortlandville, New York, home. The homeowner contacted the SPCA and the organization immediately came to rescue the pet.

On May 30, 2014, four dogs were thrown from a moving vehicle into a Phoneix, Ariz., dog park just after 10 p.m. Two dogs, Cairn Terrier mix puppies, and a Chihuahua/MinPin mix are just a few months old. They were picked up by Gil Flores and turned into Arizona’s Humane Society. The fourth dog was spotted by two homeless women who witnessed the cruel act, and cared for the dog overnight.
